Default Moving to guild wars 2

I am definitely moving to guild wars 2 when it launches. Just recently my main toon hit GWAMM. I am still going to do some playing time on guild wars 1, but I am moving on to warhammer.

So funny thread...
... whine and flaming from people who actualy admit they don't play GW anymore. Why do you even bother to visit Guru? For the sake of whine? Trolls.

This game is made for you. Anet asks you what do you want improved
You wanted Ursan nerfed? There ya go. Wanted Shadow Form nerfed? There ya go
Anet is not obliged to read Guru or any other board
I'm playing PC games since late 80's and guys from anet are really commited to what they do. One of the best software support I've ever seen. Which means you won't find mistakes from GW1 in 2

Some of you want to migrate to WoW? Please go and don't come back. You won't find more botting in any other game
Diablo 3... rofl... completely different type of game

Whine whine whine...

And yes, I will buy GW2
Z axis (I doubt any of the Trolls know what does this mean) will change the gameplay a lot

Development for a new title typically takes 5 years, and they started a couple years ago. I think they knew how long it would take, and are actually doing things according to plan. I think players are not all that savy as to development cycles though. Go research how long it took between Warcraft II and III and you'll see what I mean - or even between Diablo II and III for that matter!

This man speaks the truth, although the 5 years depends on the company *coughsvalvecoughs* >_>

Although you are essentially correct, there is one difference. Even though it was set up differently, this is an online MMORPG. A game like WoW is going for the same amount of time and still gets updates and the next expansion is coming.
Games like Diablo and such are a different type of game. The MMO type game is set up to keep a fan base going continually. Of course it takes a long time to create a new game. That is no mystery. But the problem is that people expect the continuity that other MMO's are giving and Anet doesn't have and I guess that means they cannot afford the manpower to keep GW1 alive and well while they continue on GW2. This is something however Anet is not admitting to. Perhaps they have no choice but I feel it's too bad as they may lose a good chunk of the fan base to other games because they lost their momentum.
So please, people like me do get that a new game takes a long time to develop, but at the same time Anet also needs to know that people won't wait forever either and no release date for anything, whether it be GW2 or an expansion, is the same as forever. So if GW2 takes more time, so be it, but don't leave people hanging too long or they will go elsewhere. And that is why I am disappointed. Will I play GW2. Probably not, because I suspect I will have too much time to get engrossed in another game that I will stick with them rather than come back. That is a simple truth. Am I 100% sure I will not play GW2? Of course not, but I guess Anet will just have to play the lottery with a good chunk of their fan base and see what happens.

And go look at when they expected to BETA (didn't happen). You will also see that during the time Warcraft I, II, and III was in development Blizzard worked on other titles. It is called good business planning and Diversification.

The simple fact the BETA in this year was not an achievable goal, anyone in the industry that has succeeded could have told them that, I still can not understand the reason to abandon GW1 so quickly when development of a new title does typically take 5 years, most publisher I have seen are pushing for 3 years now and a quicker turn around from a Marketing stand point this will become a necessity since publisher are making a push towards console since they are starting to compete in the PC market.

Sorry Way off topic here.

Default Guild Wars 2

As I said before, I will be back to guild wars2 for sure. But I do have a question that I have often wondered about. Since we pay no subscription for the game, can guild wars really have teams committed to GW1 and GW2? It seems to me they would have to be running a tight ship and watching there expenses closely. Can they be fairly compared to a company that charges a $15 dollar a month fee to play the game? Those games would have cash coming in every month to keep a team on supporting the first game and a team to develop future content in patches or expansions. I ofter wondered this. I dont know much about game design or development since I work in the medical field.

Right now ArenaNet is still making money from new players buying the game. This is one reason why I think they are going about business as they are. Although a lot of players are leaving, there are still a lot of new players coming in, as well as returning players. No matter how you slice it, GW2 will have much greater brand recognition and a much larger playerbase when it launches than GW1 had, and over 5 million units have been sold of the GW1 campaigns.

I'll talk more about this when I post up my next article, but the bottom line is that GW1 has done better than pretty much anyone could have expected, and anything that carries over to GW2 is going to be icing on the cake.

So... just out of curiosity, are you going to buy Guild Wars 2? or are you going to move on? Pretty sure the same thing will go on in GW2
First, individuals may differ in approach.

Quote:
What is the main goal for many long-term PvE players out there?
"Love thy neighbor as thyself." Basic truth - what you cannot do for yourself you cannot do for someone else. Before I can assist someone in achieving GWAMM I have to first achieve it myself. Before I can assist someone in getting Legendary Guardian, I have to first get it myself.

Because GW eliminates anything that works for getting something done as soon as players begin to find a way of being successful, getting to a point where you can effectively and efficiently assist fellow players is not only always changing - it is always being deliberately destroyed by the Dev.s. Some consider this "increased challenge" - I consider it despicable.

In almost 4 years of PvE I do not have everything I desire. Builds I desire to run and play are destroyed. Every open opertunity to efficiently and effectively gain ground on in-game goals is obliterated - whether it allows the gaining of gold, faction, or other amenities. Access to materials needed for armors are severely restricted through drop nerfing and destruction. Teases, like the free chest runs, accomplish little or nothing - the amount received from them (even after months of not going) is so pathetic as to eliminate any reason to go. The cost in hours and gold to get things needed for title is so extreme that I personally cannot be deterred from a belief that those who have everything bought it on-line with a creditcard.

Yes, I have done some farming, under the new loot-scaling lie that farm codes no longer exist - in order to fill out my guild hall. Farm codes do exist - the return for effort is minimal to abysmal. In four years of play, the few times I have been in UW achieved Two (2) Ectos. I have realised they will not drop and now purchase them from the merchant when I get a little money - which puts other things on hold.

Altogether I have 10 characters (one of each class) and 260 heroes to outfit according to the theme of each character. Since I cannot afford to purchase what I want for them, that leaves waiting until something I need accidently drops for me (yep, should be done about 2109). What I can still pretty much guarantee is that half of my drops of any quality are generally Mesmer off-hands - and I just realised the other day that with the gazillions of mesmer stuff that has dropped for me, not one, not One - decent (inscribable even) r9 max dom staff has ever dropped in gold or purple.

The largest problem for GW1 has been the attempt to force PvP standards and idealogy on PvE players. The attempt to fuse the two style of games has utterly failed. The attempt to extract them in a meaningful and effective way has also utterly failed, - since all their concepts of balancing are designed within a PvP mindset, even when the end result has to function in an environment against 30th levels foes with special additional abilities - instead of foes of equal status.

Currently, I have no reason to purchase GW2 for those reasons: Lack of support for effective PvE play, direct assaults to undermine PvE effectiveness, lying about farm codes, making promises that are not kept, banning players for their screw-ups, lying about where these screw-ups happened (like saying it was minimal and only on Euro servers), failing to fix game glitches, bugs, problems that have been recorded in wiki for years, the constant effort to keep players in poverty and unable to achieve game goals, etc. mean I hold little interest in getting or promoting GW2. This inspite of the fact that the HoM has turned all of GW into a mere prep station to step into GW2.

Has GW done somethings well, yes. The graphics are superior to anything else I have seen in being pleasant, from characters to scenery. The story lines have improved with each release, and have effectively woven in aspects of the earth cultures they represent.

Personally, I won't judge a sequel (that I haven't seen yet), based solely on how the original game was handled in it's waning years.

Let's wait and see what they come up with and judge GW2 on it's own merits and flaws, shall we?

Discussing a game that we know next to nothing about, is like discussing the weather on August, the 23. 1010 ... pointless!

If the price is right and if the demo doesn't put me to sleep. If it is the same old GW with pretty graphics and tiny improvements, then no.

That's a reasonable thing to say, however I'm not sure everyone wants to be reasonable right now. If GW2 came out tomorrow I'd have to say no I'm not going to get it. If Anet is more in touch with the real community when GW2 comes out maybe, but I think there is an inherent flaw in their revenue system that's going to limit what they can do. Let's be honest, because they aren't getting $15 a month from 8 million people, ANet is not going to be able to deliver substantive updates in GW2.

Sorry to interject...but you are an idiot. You can't bot in wow because of bot detection software already installed on your comp. There is a reason why speed and teleport hackers usually get caught w/i hours or days after usage of such software.

I have yet to see a single "bot" so far in all my wow career and that means a lot.

In order to make gold in wow you don't bot, you do dailies and/or dungeons, which a bot can't really do. Farming the same mobs for hours no end is not profitable and there is always the danger of someone coming and ganking you, which happens a lot.

1) I like the upgrades that Anet does to GW. It shows that they care. With Diablo 2 there isn't alot of that.

2) I think i'll check out GW 2, but not sure if i'll buy it. GW is big enough by itself.

3) I understand to a degree that people farm. I like farming and getting rich (By rich i mean i have about 60 k gold and a lot of different bowstrings ). I find myself of course a little jealous at people's riches, but i must also say i hate following the direct lines people make for professions, i mean cookie-cutter builds and that. I like enjoying the game alone with the profession i like in real life - the Ranger.

So if people are having fun spending their hours farming - Let them, and find your own "zone" in the game, and follow that!! =D

I'm undecided at the moment. I will wait to see/hear more about it before I make a final decision. But if it changes too drastically from GW1, I most likely will not bother to get it and will probably go to my console backlog. GW is the only mmo type game that has held my interest for any amount of years. I'm not entirely sure why, but it just has a magic about it no other has had for me. Perhaps it's partly the characters, the level/equipment system (level grinding can die slowly and painfully please), the story, and probably other things like no fees, updates, etc.
